Donald Trump's System of Punishment and Favor

Trump's insatiable urge for payback has rapidly transformed into a organized framework. Over the past year, the leader's fury and impulses have assumed the guise of government actions similar to comparable to past repressive governments. Federal personnel who resist his demands are promptly removed and replaced by devotees. Opposing leaders who confront him encounter indictment, court proceedings and penalties. Adversaries have been labeled under presidential directives as “unpatriotic”, “anti-Christian” and “anti-capitalist”, and warned with legal action as “security threats”.

Federal Agencies Remade

Every instance involving targeting of critics and leniency for loyalists exhibits its own particular characteristics. But, despite their specific character, they represent manifestations of what has developed as a systematic method. These episodes are far from random. The administration's removal of DoJ attorneys and FBI agents, accompanied by his appointment of supporters in senior posts, started rapidly, soon took on a pattern, and has now been molded into a structure. Federal prosecutors and the Federal Bureau have been restructured into political organizations under the president's direct command to carry out his directives. Injustice has been turned into standard. It represents the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is focused with punishing the President's perceived opponents than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Inside the System

The origin of this framework has been exposed in the lawsuit of three ex- top law enforcement officials filed in September in the federal court in the capital against top official a senior appointee and attorney general Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a campaign of retribution against the officials for what the accused judged to be a refusal to show proper political loyalty”. In the complaint that a former acting director, the ex- temporary head, describes a conversation in which the director “openly admitted the impropriety of his behavior”.

Driscoll had tried to shield agency personnel from being dismissed, the complaint alleges. The director told him that “administration officials” – perceived by the official to be the presidential administration and justice department – had ordered him to dismiss anyone who they considered as having been involved in a criminal investigation against him. The complaint continues: “The director stated that he had to terminate the people his leaders told him to fire, because his chance to retain his own position depended on the dismissal of the officials who handled investigations involving the leader. He noted that there was nothing he or him could do to stop these or any other dismissals, because ‘the bureau sought to place the leader in prison and he hasn't forgotten it.’” When Driscoll advised him he was breaking the bureau's own regulations, he allegedly said “he recognized that and he was aware the essence of the summary firings were likely unlawful”.

Broad Consequences

Since the director's alleged admission to Driscoll, the justice department and the Federal Bureau have been dismantled and redirected for the administration's revenge apparatus. Six of the bureau's senior executives were dismissed or forced out in the early weeks of the presidency. Roughly numerous lawyers at the justice department have accepted a “early exit scheme”. No fewer than several DoJ lawyers, among them those in the Manhattan division, quit in objection over what they considered as partisan influence in dropping the corruption case against the local official, the mayor, in return for his assistance with the administration's Immigration and Customs Enforcement roundups of foreign nationals. The anti-corruption unit of the department, which oversees corruption cases, has been cut down to minimal staff. The equality section has been decimated: seventy percent of its employees has departed. 33% of top officials at the department have left. The division implementing ecological regulations has experienced the exit of a majority its supervisors.

Favors and Sanctions

Regarding the legal matter, the acting US attorney for the federal division, she, resigned in protest against what she labeled as the “exchange”. A key figure, his “immigration leader,” was present as the implementer with Adams on television to declare: “Should he fail to deliver, I will return in the city.”. Meanwhile, Emil Bove, earlier the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the deal, was awarded an appellate federal judgeship, a possible pathway to the supreme court.

Trump's immunity for crimes committed while in government, provided by the extraordinary ruling of the Republican majority on the judicial body, thus preventing his legal action over the January 6 insurrection and preserving his political viability for the presidential race, is the cornerstone on which he stands to shield his stalwarts. Given this protection, he has been freed to authorize misconduct. The consequence of the judicial ruling saturates his government and the GOP completely. The legal case has escalated. As the former president's administration lawyer he remarked about the Watergate
