Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This marks the player's initial trophy since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt after that period of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his ability to perform at the top level was over.

Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete assertively, supported by an improved service.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five points to take the lead.

Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a third set.

Moutet defended four initial opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
